Currently a writer and editor at Patagonia, most of my work is about how human communities understand and interact with the natural world.

I started out as a surf and travel writer in Tofino, a (very) small town on Vancouver Island, where I became fascinated by the wider context of coastal life—from history and identity to ecosystems and the environment. Now living in Southern California, I'm especially interested in some of the less prominent, but no less important, things that give life its inherent goodness—among them food, farming, sustainable living and traditional arts and cultures.

From 2007 to 2013, I worked as the editor of SBC Surf, Canada’s newsstand surf magazine. As a contributor to various outdoor publications, I still love the slow labor of long-form writing—but I've learned that doing things is usually more fun than talking about doing things, so these days the trails and points are where my truest stoke lies.
